The "Black-Box"-radio. This STANDARD mobile-radio for 145Mc was a very comfortable radio with a full-remote-control microphone. Additional it is able to receive on 430Mc amateur-radio. After a small modding transmission and reception-range could be expanded a lot. Its sister for 70cm was called STANDARD C-4208 and transmits on 430Mc amateur radio band.
Every STANDARD radio had specials. This radio's special is the small size and the remote-mike. So users are able to place the "black-box" in the trunk and control the radio completely by mike. The C-1208 and C-4208 series have been one of the first radios that were able to be connected to 1k2 or 9k6 packet-radio modems without modding because those radios had a special plug for packet already on board.
Reparatur und Service zum STANDARD C-1208
On many STANDARD C-1208 after some years display starts blinking. Sometimes blinking will stop again and the radio will work as it should. During the blinking receiver and transmitter don't work. What has happend? The anser has took me some hours to find and is not satisfying: A blinking display mostly means that PLL doesn't lock. Because of the small size many stages of this radio had to be built in a very small size or even to be integrated in other stages. This was done on the PLL-unit. PLL, modulation and base-signal all are being generated in one unit. This unit is a high-integrated circuit called KH036Y. You can see this circuit in the picture under this text. And now here comes the sad answer for this blinking problem: The integrated circuit ( IC ) KH036Y runs under pretty much current that leads to a high temparature inside circuit. After some years high temparature leads to damage of the PLL-circuit. All signals are ok - except the PLL-signal. Even if you try to get the parts out of the metal-case you won't be able to repair the broken circuit because it is impossible to get spare-parts. And this is the sad problem of all C-1208 with blinking display.
